Ash Wednesday falls on the 22nd February. Mass will be celebrated in Saint Peter's at 10am. Ashes will be distributed during Mass.
While Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation, all Catholics are encouraged to attend Mass on this day.
Lent is a solemn period in the Church’s calendar and a good start will help all of us as we observe this penitential season. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence. All Catholics are bound to abstain from meat and Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast.
