In the eyes of the church, the season of Christmas finishes on 2nd February, 40 days after the birth of Christ, with the Feast of Candlemas. To mark the end of the festive season, and in the first of two Director Recitals, Matthew Owens performs one of the great works of the early 20th century, La Nativité du Seigneur (The Birth of Our Lord). This is an opportunity to meditate on the deeply spiritual music of one of the finest composers for the organ, Olivier Messiaen. The nine movement work will be played on the mighty 57-stop Kenneth Jones organ in the atmospheric and beautiful Saint Peter’s Cathedral.
